While in the AF I went TDY (1970) to Bitburg and, at the same time, went to Trier, Munich, and Nuremburg. Drank lots of beer, "spent some time" with a few accomodating frauleins, drank some beer, toured a castle or two, drank some beer, got drunk, and drank some beer. I think I had a really great time.

And I completely concur with Bandito about the autobahn. Four of us rented a Mercedes and drove that famous highway. I was doing about 100mph in the fast lane and had to constantly pull over for faster traffic. I thought Rt. 128 in MA was bad but the autobahn is NASCAR for civilians!

Found this on a UK website. I thought you might be interested.

Airborne Forces
Museum, Osterbeek, Holland

The official museum of Operation Market Garden which took place in
September 1944 - the real story of "A Bridge Too Far".

Situated in the village of Oosterbeek to the east of Arnhem, the
Airborne Forces museum is located in the former Hotel Hartenstein
which was HQ to both the German FM Model and later Maj. Gen Roy
Urquhart.

This is a superb collection of original artifacts, photographs,
narrative accounts and superb 1:1 dioramas of events during OMG.
