A new video shows a unique view of a B-52 cockpit as it takes off from one of America’s most important outposts in the Pacific—the tiny island of Guam. The heavy strategic bomber is part of a program meant to assure allies of America’s commitment to the Pacific region.

The video shows a cockpit view from a B-52H bomber as it taxis across Guam’s Andersen Air Force Base. The bomber in the video is apparently the second plane in a two-ship formation (the first aircraft is briefly visible on the ground, and a smoke trail is visible in front as our bomber thunders down the runway). The clip also shows the bomber taking on fuel from a KC-135 aerial refueling tanker before the plane lands again at Andersen.

The U.S. Air Force regularly rotates small groups of heavy bombers to Andersen Air Base from bases in the continental United States. The program, known as Continuous Bomber Presence, began in 2004 to assure local allies the U.S. wasn’t entirely focused on Iraq and the Middle East. Since then, B-1B, B-2A, and B-52H bombers have deployed to Andersen for months at a time. CBP bombers are regularly involved in show-of-force missions to the Korean peninsula and freedom-of-navigation exercises against China’s expansive territorial claims in the South China Sea.

CBP bombers regularly practice bombing runs against pretend targets on Farallon de Medinilla, an uninhabited island in the Mariana island chain. Here’s a few videos of bombers blasting the island with live bombs.

1st Video link of B52 pummeling the island with 42 - 500lb. bombs: https://youtu.be/_c-vJ9gVJm0

2nd Video link of B52 from a chase aircraft dropping the bombs and the impact on the island: https://youtu.be/o_F7jT2j2Jk

I wonder if there was any wildlife on the island prior to the bombing??
