Old drug quiets the nightmares of war

Old drug quiets the nightmares of war

(EXCERPT) By J. Patrick Coolican Seattle Times staff reporter

Millions of combat veterans have lived through these nightmares every
night, often for decades, as one symptom of post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD).

Now though, Jones and a group of PTSD patients at the Veterans
Administration hospital in Seattle say they are getting a nightly
reprieve with help from Dr. Murray Raskind, a VA psychiatrist. Since
1998, Raskind has been experimenting with prazosin, an old
blood-pressure medication that, in tests, has reduced and often
stopped the nightmares.

If the drug delivers on its promise, prazosin could transform the
lives of hundreds of thousands of veterans, including a new generation
of soldiers returning from Iraq.

last four months in combat carrying an unloaded weapon."

What a crock of shit. Scammers.

PTSD and Agent Orange have allowed many Vietnam vets to scam the VA
system. Some in this newsgroup (e.g. Patrick Hughes...who probably
has nightmares of freezing at Khe Sahn...the phony little bastard).

Any dishonest Vietnam vet can claim PTSD in order to get benefits they
are not entitled to. Oh you have lung cancer after smoking for 45
years, no problem, you automatically get Agent Orange benefits.

"After years of drinking and using drugs, an on-the-job injury that
ended his career as an iron worker, two collapsed marriages and regular
nightmares, Hall said he was ready to kill himself, to "check out,"

This old guy, Hall, who was in Vietnam in 1965, 38 years ago, is
apparently just one of life's losers, regardless of Vietnam.

My message to Hall: Do it! Pull the trigger! Put us out of our misery,
you worthless lying scamming loser.

Nah! My battalion records are full of GIs in ghastly, horrifying and harrowing
predicaments. Death would have been a merciful end. But the survivor must
surely carry the insanity he experienced. They have earned and deserve any and
all compensation/relief available. We, as a nation, owe them at least this
much.

And your battlefield experiences, please?
