Working out

Just started going to the gym (24HrFitness) after almost 3 years hiatus. I gave up running then when my knee went bad and I want to save it for Zydeco.
I sorta do this in cycles--buff up between women and then when I have a girlfriend then its " Oh justhave a little taste of this" "Wanna share one of those beautiful desserts?"
Well, women weaken legs, like Ol Burgess Meredith said in Rocky.
I'm spending 20 minutes a day on one of those runnerplus arms things, 20 minutes on weights and swim a quarter mile. Plus I like to walk at least couple miles a day and bicycle a lot, weather permitting.
The main motivation for this is my up coming trips to Vietnam and Europe. It can be mighty handy to be able to sprint 200 yards and then put up a good fight if necessary as I learned somewhere.
I used to do ShotoKan and am thinking of joining that again or maybe doing some Tai Chi or Yoga. I still do Tantra (giggle)
If I'm gonna be old, I want to be badass old.
Anybody else a gym rat?
James

Hit the weights quite a bit, being a firefighter(volunteer) it helps to be strong and in good shape. More firefighters die from heartattcks at the scene that any other cause. Since my back went to hell can't do too much road work anymore.

in shape

Not a gym rate, hate the idea of paying people to tell me I'm out of shape. Can't walk much, too much snow on the ground and not enough sidewalks, expect down town. When I walk down town always meet people that try their best to lure me into taverns and other dens of iniquity.
But for the first time in about 6 years we got 4 cord of wood that needs to be split. Splitting oak into popsicle sticks is the sort of thing that you can really feel in the arms and upper chest. Bending down to pick it up and stack it must do more than just hurting my back.
Splitting wood has always been something I've enjoyed. It's alone time, which is nice. I also focus all my anger or whatever on that piece of wood and smash the hell out of it. Very cathartic for us simple minded. Besides when your done lifting weight you have nothing to show for it. Splitting and stacking wood looks like you did something. If the dishes arn't done, I have a great excuse.
Also doing weight watchers. We stopping going to confession but have staying on the "points system", we weigh in every Thursday morning. (Why Thursday - because my wife told me to.) Only lost 13 pounds in 10 weeks, but at least it's going in the right direction.

Stay healthy, get buff,
Andy

I use to!

Run six miles a day and work out with the weights. Got really busy doing other things in about 1985. Gained 80 lbs or so. Doc says I got to lose it. Chris and I are going to try to loose 100 lbs or so and do a backpack trip in August. I hope we follow through. It was so much fun putting on the weight. Losing it will be a strain.

I need a swift kick in the ASS

We have a great facility here in town(Sequim Aquatic and Recreation Center)that I have had every thought and intention of enlisting in since we moved here 3 yrs ago.The price for membership takes a pretty substantial jump on Wednesday,so will try to use that as a motivation to go write a check today. My knees went south on me and I had them both replaced in '99-one in Jan.and the other in May,and was hunting Mule deer in Idaho in Oct.Since then I have become nearly sedantary and ballooned out to a robust 300 lb. Need to do it!!! Kati and I are going to Europe in August-Sure would make traveling more comfortable if I were to shed 50-75 lbs. :t:

Everybody get on your feet

You make me nervous when you in your seat
Take off your shoes and pat your feet
We're doing a dance that can't be beat
We're barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'

Went to a party the other night
Long Tall Sally was out of sight
She threw her wig, and her high sneakers too
She was doing a dance without any shoes
She was barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'

Hey little girl with the red dress on
I bet you can barefoot all night long
Take off your shoes and throw them away
Come back and get them another day
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'

Lil John Henry he said to Sue
If I can barefoot, you can barefoot too
Sue told John, I can get out here and groove
I was barefootin ever since I was two
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'
Take off your shoes and dance
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'
barefootin'

Here's my inspiration, She's sixty-two, has four children, two grandchildren and just did a world tour this year. She has never had a personal trainer or worked out in a gym. But she loves to dance.....who else but the one and only....

My Dad.

My Dad was my inspiration.

He never gained or lost much weight all of his life. He stayed at about 155 from his twenties to his death at 94. Always had a six pack for abdominals. Was a world class sprinter, even when I was slim and trim I could only out run slow people. I asked what happened to me, and he said, you take after your mother's side of the family. I've been cursed! Hey, Griz you going to shed those pounds and go hiking with Chris and me?
