Super What
 

After reading what the top man at the NFL thought of the stadium here in San Diego, and returning the favor (in kind) on what I thought of his establishment, the truth is, that the Super Bowl could have been played in Beverly Hills and it would have made no difference!! With a final score of 48 to 21, it was obvious that the Raiders were simply outplayed!!

What was it that an old sage once said about professional football:

?Any given team in this game can beat any other team on any particular day!?

?AND SO IT WAS ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 26, 2003!!?

No one can take anything away from either team, the Raiders or the Buccaneers, as to make it this far, proved that they were indeed the best. This, however, is not the reason for my penning this piece, as I am not here to praise Caesar, but rather to bury him, rhetorically speaking!

The game itself may have been overkill, but the circus that followed it was a genuine disgrace to humanity! A shameful act indeed, that spilled out into the streets after the game?s conclusion, all the way up the coast, from San Diego to the Bay Area!! ?Alas, A Sad Example Of Sportsmanship At It?s Worst!!?

I just saw on the news this morning, where a plethora of arrests were made, both in San Diego and the Bay Area after the game. Numerous brawls erupted as drunken louts invades the streets shortly after this sporting event concluded. It almost made me feel like I was witnessing an bloody extravaganza at the old Roman Coliseum, 20 centuries removed. This rampage, however, was not staged in the arena, but rather in the streets, as a number of ?Twenty-first Century Barbarians? proved that you can take mankind out of the jungle, but you can not take the jungle out of some men!?

Near riots broke out in several areas of town, as poor losers and drunks took their frustrations to the next level! As a matter of fact, even here in San Diego a few fools drove their cars along major freeways, swearing out their windows, and on at least two occasions that I witnessed, tossing dangerous projectiles out onto the roadway, including at least one full beer can. This act of instantaneous insanity almost caused a car with children in it to lose control, and the stupidity of the mindless deed could have resulted in tragedy. The injury or death of an innocent person, especially a child, is one helluva price to pay for letting off steam or acting the part of a fool!

I can not help but wonder what some foreign nationals must think when they witness news footage of the near riots that break loose after a few of these events. Or what their opinion of us must be after they see programs like ?Cops? that displays, not the best of us, but rather the small minority of our population that infect the seedier side of life! And like it or not, we are constantly under the microscope of world opinion!

Being on top is not only an honor, it is also an awesome responsibility. One in which we are expected to lead by example. Granted, these melees occur, not only here in the United States, but indeed all over the world, ?but that still don?t make it right!!?

That's why Bernadette and I went to Temecula to watch the superbowl and did not come back until a few hours after it was over ;)

The foreign nationals have their soccer riots to compare us to. :D
