Questions about Bush and Cheney's 3 DUIs
You Republicans can help me out here, I'm lacking some details.
now I know all bout George Bush's DUI--drunk off his ass, speeding, all over the road. The state trooper took one lookat his name and decided to softball the charge, let him go with justa fine. Did he spend time in the drunktank?? was he booked/mugshotted?? Can we see these pictrures?? And as for Cheney--TWO DUIs!!! Don't you think thats shameful??? So whats the story on his DUIs anyway?? Were there accidents involved? Was anyone hurt?? Did he resist? Was he put in the drunktank. Was he mugshotted nd booked?? Can we se these pictures. What did Cheney do about his substance abuse problems?? remember Cheney refusiing to release transcripts of his conferences with industry leaders about the energy policy?? Do you think maybe he was drunk Does Cheney still drink?? Does he drive?? I think driving drunk is way more shameful than Clinton's getting a BJ from a Valley girl, It actually jeapodises the lives of their fellow Americans. One warning wasn't enough for Cheney, he did it twice. Could you explain why having people with substance abuse problems run the country is good idea?? It always raises the question: " What did the president know an how much did he have to drink when he knew it?? just curious James |
JAMES -
"I guess that we can just chalk it up to leading by example!" One of the perks of office is often a brand new set of teflon armor. Even the most died in the wool republican and/or democrat would be hard-pressed to look the other way, or to forgive and forget, were it a member of their own family that was placed in jeopardy by a drunk driver, even one who is also drunk on power! Ah but then, position does have it's privilleges, even in our Democracy, does it not!? As such, maybe each and every law should have a "BUT" behind it! :r: VERITAS |

I guess it just depends on your perspective... Justice in this country is certainly not blind...not only can she see...but sometimes has her hand out...if you know what I mean.. Larry |
DUIs
Okay, I agree that drunk dring or driving unde rthe influence is extremely bad. So bad, that I think anyone who causes an accident while driving intoxicated (drink or drugs) should be charged with 1st degree felonious assault, or 1st degree murder if someone gets killed. Why ? Because these people knew when they left the house and drove to the bar or party that they were going to be driving later, while impaired by drink or drugs.
BTW - Why just pick on Cheney and CW Bush ? At least these two didn't hurt anybody. The good ol' Democrat Kennedy, now THERE is a piece of work !! Getsd drunk, drives and kills his "date" (oops! I forgot he's married isn't he ?!?), leaves the scene of the accident and finally calls it in to the police several hours later, all the while neglecting to mentin to the police that his "date" was still in the car, under 20 feet of water !!!! :d: :d: Did Kennedy get arrested ? No ! Did he get a ticket ? NO !! did he get to spend time in the ol' drunk tank ? NO !! Did he get a mug-shot taken ? NO !!! Can we see the pictures ? No !!! C'mon guys. If you're gonna bash Bush and Cheney at least do it over something that really matters. And by the way, when throwing the strones, make sure you're out of the glass house, so we can all enjoy the party more fully. :md: I'm neither an elephant lover nor an ass kisser, but I do so much more enjoy a balanced attack. When the GOP boys screw it up, it's great to have it brought to our attention, but remember that theDemocrats screw up as well. Neither has a monopoly on stupidity or arrogance. Be an Independent - Vote for the man / woman, not the party. |
sgt, when I read this the first thing I though of was stuff from the past like we use to say dont mean nothing. the people heard obut this before and nobody gave a big rats ass. I'm like you I'm an Independent when I vote I look at the person, I personally just don't like the bushs never have and never will just me.

Nor I the Kennedys. Both parties seem to put forth the worst they have to offer these days, rather than the best. And Heaven help the poor honest" slob who really wants to try and make a difference, because the almighty Dems and GOP will put their lives under such a microscope and spotlight any and negative items to the public through their besy henceman; the newspapers and talking head "news" shows.

Isee this as the further example of unequal media coverage--if Clinton or Gore had such sorry records you would see it daily. look how much airtime the question of wheter Clinton inhaled or not got. Our First Drunk Driver gets a real free ride here, so does the Second Drunk Driver James |
Could it be
because neither man denied it happened nor that it was indeed wrong ? also, the public still doesn't put liquor and drunkenness and even driving while under the influence as bad as lying or as bad as illegal drug use, or as bad as someone elected to the highest office in the land committing adultery in the Oval office.
Clinton broke the public's trust with his lies and that only served to further heigthen the sin of adultery (with a young woman virtually the same age as his daughter). Look at how Teddy Kennedy got off with his drunk driving and killing of the young woman with whom he was having as affair. The public fotrgave him for two reasons (neither of which was right or warranted). 1) Because his family had suffered the tragic loss of three sons already and 2) because he didn't try adn deny he was driving while intoxicated. The American public has always been quick to forgive / forget the sin if and when the sinner openly admits to the act and that it was indeed wrong and makes an honest attempt at correcting their actions. Even Nixon would have been forgiven had he simply owned up to his actions and not tried to cover them up with lies. Heck, even John Kennedy was and still is loved by the American people, not because he was such a great statesman (in fact he was a lousy statesman! ), but because he never lied about his transgressions; he simply never bother to respond to the media and public's questions about it. As I stated before, both Bush and Cheney have done many more things that desire the public's ire that something that happen long before they were elected into office. Things such as not following through on their promises to the disabled veterans and increasing the VA budget accordingly. Things like not pushing for a repeal of the concurrent receipt law which keeps veterans from collecting in full both their disability and retirement pay. Things like lying to the American public on the reasons (justifications) for the current war in Iraq. (Not that I'm saying we shouldn't have removed Saddam and his murderous sons and henchmen !) |
:ae: good writing Sgt Tropo agreed and I couldn't said it better except for mentioning the rumor from Chappaquiddick that Mary ? was pregnant and ole Teddy paid off the family so they wouldn't request an Autopsy Hmmmm. :x:

DUI
James, there are thousands, maybe 10?s of thousands of cops around the country who could have arrested a person for operating under the influence and didn?t. If there was an accident, the guy has a bad attitude, there is a crowd around - all bets are off. However lots of those who weave within their own lane or are traveling too fast or slow and get stopped and have had a few do not get arrested. And this is not the domain of big shots.
I stopped a guy one night who was coming home from his mother?s wake. He was driving about 15 miles per hour in 35 MPH zone. I took his keys and took him home. Another guy was about 400 yards from his house when stopped. He had a class 1 drivers license (big rig truck driver) married and four kids. Do I arrest a man with no criminal for vehicle record and put the entire family on welfare, could have. But I put the guy under protective custody (8 hours in jail but no charges) and had his car towed, $50 to get the car out of lock up. There are reasonable reasons for giving someone ONE chance. As far as the Prez and the VP, they used to drink. I give them a lot of credit for quitting their drug of choice and now living a sober life. I respect you for the same reason. Matter of fact, how many of us could have been busted for things we did - but for the grace of God? It would seem that what a person did year ago isn?t all that important, it?s not as germane for an elected official to have to write, ?What I did on summer vacation in 1973?. It?s not as important as, ?What I did yesterday while in office.? The fact that these guys were charged with criminal offences at all seems to say a lot for the cops who stopped them. Bust the wrong person and bad things can happen. The State Trooper who did the accident reconstruction for Kenney?s accident was exiled to the Pittsfield barracks, although he was a sharp young cop at the time, never got a promotion or even a transfer. It?s a lot worst for other cops who arrest the ?wrong? person. Stay healthy, Andy |
