Remember when you vote in November that President Kerry will be cutting defense dollars where he can because he believes in a lighter, more maneuverable force. The Navy is already getting prepared by naming a class of Aircraft Carriers after him. This is the prototype.

Good idea, I?m for it. The USS Teddy-Jane, CVNOT-1. Has a nice ring to it I?d say. All honors due to TJ being a former maximum Navy hero and all, should skipper the first launch. Perhaps right up there on the bridge when they light off the jet turbines. Makes sense to me anyway, kind of a ?Gone with the wind? heroic saga, more or less. :D

Perhaps Seascamp can help me out here, but the propulsion device needed to get that bad boy in the air, with only a 25' run-up, is going to be a sight to behold! And best viewed from about 500 meters off the port stern. Yuppers, the combination of steam launch + the F14 at max thrust would shore do a job on the deckhouse. Arrrgh, full speed ahead, and LAUNCH the mutha!

seeing as he is used to short runs. They found just the right skipper too. "Captain Kangeroo"

Wull Col., it can be done but yikes!!!!!! Kaboooooooom and off into the wild blue yonder, probably in bits and pieces as the airframe comes unstitched from all the ?g? force loading. I?d say a big old solid fuel rocket or a half dozen or so simultaneously fired JATO rockets would get that bugger in the air sure enough, but the number of disconnecting aircraft pieces would be the technical challenge at hand.
Assuming launch success, there had better be auto pilot/inertial nav system cuz the pilot is going to be taking a ?g? force blackout nap for quite a while. Then of course the ?Carrier? is going to take a scoot backwards for quite a ways and maybe flip over and over, so maybe your suggested positioning off the port stern needs further consideration, but 500 meters may be enough stand-off, who knows. As to the pilothouse and all deck riggings, wull, that?s a Via Con Dios deal for sure. I know of ?Pocket Battleships? but this rig may be a disposable ?Dixie Cup Carrier?.

Anyway, the YF looks to be a fresh water harbor lighter/tender being used as a cargo carrier for the moment. Cool pic, thanks Marine.

That's a Harrier landing pad. I've been on a few of those last minute landing areas.
