Hey PI I wish we still had a base there. I was there in 64, 65 and 67 in and out of port. Great country and people. Mr. Magoo beer was good too!.. Lot's of memories and a great people.

The picture of the bus sure brought back some memories of Angeles City on Luzon. One funny thing, though; the dog in the background. I can't believe they'd let such a large potential meal just walk around like that! That hound could feed a family of ten for a week!:p :l:

Scamp...

And,...a belated Happy New Year to you too.

I must say, you do get around muh-man, and apparently in some pretty-nice spots. Don't know personally, since never been there to Filipinas.
But, photos of place sent me by Godson planning on retiring there fairly soon when last hitch is up,...paint a very pretty picture, indeed.

Maybe me and wife can hire-on as Maid and House Boy,...when my favorite little: "Anchor Cranker" finally retires? :D
Might even get to brush-up on machete skills? :D :D :D

Well Dan, dog eating is now against the law in the P.I. but I?m told the good O?l boys still grab some Red Horse beer, lambanog and have a bit of dog from time-to-time out in their bahay kubu (jungle hut). Lambanog is fermented sap from the coco palm and is probably better suited to paint stripping or parts cleaning I?d say, Aarrgg.

Here is a pic of some guys prepping a goat for some cooking. And yes, plenty of dogs around plus chickens so there is always some animal background sound going on. Plus the there is the rule of the lost manuk (chicken). This is where a chicken that meanders off to a neighbors yard has just changed owners and is likely soon to become manuk adobo. Either that or the manuk becomes a meal for a local boa.

Neil, it is a nice place to retire if there is local family connects and if a person is willing to accept the culture and all the neighborhood dynamics; which there tons off- boy howdy. It isn?t all that tough to blend in, ya just have to be patient, have a good sense of humor and just kind of figure things out as ya go. Here are some pics of the town of Tayabas which is well south-east of Manila. Nice folks and a lot of fun to hang out with.
The red roof building in the foreground was where the Japanese garrison was during WWII. A USN aircraft took the roof off the place at the time, took out the garrison and without damaging the church that I took the pic from. See pic of the St. Michael Archangel Basilica a bit further on. These days the former Japanese garrison building is a museum but served as a grammar school for a long time.
