Kia Ora from New Zealand
My name is Jim. I live in New Zealand, but was born in England. I would like to thank you for allowing me to participate on your site.
I served in the Infantry, and was stationed in Germany 1957-59. Didn't see any active service apart from the usual fights in NAAFI queues, but did take part ina multi-national parade, celebrating the anniversary of NATO. Prior to the parade the battalion was billeted at an American Air Force base, just out side of Frankfurt. This was my first experience of meeting American forces. It was an eye opening experience. Breakfast consisted ofa selection of different cereals, bacon and eggs, pancakes, fresh milk, ice cream, and much to the chagrin of our officers and NCOs, everyone had to queue andeat in the same dining room. Happy days. I have just been watching a documentary about Vietnam Vets. Unfortunately the New Zealand government still refuses to acknowledge thoseold soldiers, and are not prepared to erect a monument to those who lost thier lives. I don't like the term, often used "gave their lives". As far as I am concerned no soldier "gives his\her life, they have it stolen from them. The motto of my regiment was Cede Nullis, a term which seems appropriate for this site and it's members. God bless you all Jim |

New Zealand Maori
When I was with the 25th inf in VN we had a company of Australian engineers near us at a rock quarry. One day they told us they were being replaced by a mary company. We thought they would be an elite infantry unit named after Queen Mary. They were elite infantry but they were native New Zealand Maoris. Very good soldiers.
