A good hacker can get into anything and do quite a bit of damage, including changing the outcome of elections. We need a paper trail.

Ongoing problems with Diebold were one of the reasons why Texas chose machines made by Hart Industries. Not connected to the Internet, they create an internal paper trail while recording the completely accurate vote in three places. It would require a conspiracy of at least five people to create a fraudulent voting environment. Only problem I've experienced in the three years I've worked with them as a certified election worker or as an Election Judge is the inability or unwillingness of some people to read the very simple instructions on the screens.
