Bob - there is some truth in the words stating your hell is on earth. In war or out of war there are many terrible things that many have seen that make you sit up at night sometimes in a cold sweat. I've had this happen just the other day. Woke up yelling and my wife went nuts saying you gotta get this under control or sleep outside.
It just pops in every now and then and I can't sleep no more that night cause I don't want and reruns. Talking about it doesn't help in all cases. Changing the subject thinking about family or other things or just staying busy doesn't allow these issues to take hold.
I also move away from those who reflect on issues relating to such memories only because it triggers a reaction of which I can't control.

O Almighty Lord God, who neither slumberest nor sleepest; Protect and assist, we beseech thee, all those who at home or abroad, by land, by sea, or in the air, are serving this country, that they, being armed with thy defence, may be preserved evermore in all perils; and being filled with wisdom and girded with strength, may do their duty to thy honour and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
