During the presidency of FDR, there were several attempts to pass an anti-lynching bill into law. Each time, it was filibustered to death, despite the pleas of the President's wife, Eleanor. One of the longest talkers during the filibuster was that paragon of civil liberties, Robert Byrd, Democrat - WV, hardly a conservative.

When LBJ was trying to get the Civil Rights Act passed into law, it was the parliamentary genius of Everett Dirksen, Republican - IL, who gathered the votes on the Repubican side of the aisle to get the bill passed into law. That same bill was lobbied for defeat by none other than Al Gore, Sr. Democrat - TN, hardly a conservative.

When the Civil Rights Act became law, my good friend and I integrated a previously segregated local cafe in Killeen, Texas, because we were both hungry, and it was the right thing to do. By and large, most military people today would classify themselves as "conservative," and the completely integrated condition of the military is a testimony to that degree of open-mindedness. There are racists in every walk of life.

Your broad-brush approach to condemn every conservative doesn't work, James. And your facts are skewed over or screwed up.
