The explosive charge in ALL HE Munitions used by Artillery whether on land or sea is Composition "B". It is very stable and will not detonate from the shock of firing, ie" going from zero to about 900 miles per hour in about a tenth of a second. The lethal effect of this stuff is from the fragments that shoot out from the projectile when it explodes. The worst thing that you can get from the fumes from Comp-B is a headache. Folks who use TNT and Dynamite get the headaches too, but the folks who use Dynamite end up with heart problems because the fumes tend to dilate the blood vessels in the heart and when they don't get their "Dynamite Fix" they start having angina attacks. A few weeks away from the fumes and they are as "Right as Rain".
