U.S.M.C.-- 1950-1952. Overseas in Korea 12 months, 6 days. In C-1-1. "Charlie Co., 1st Batallion, 1st Regiment, 1st Marine Division, as a machine gunner.
This regiment was the last regiment that Chesty Puller commanded before he was promoted to General. He is the most decorated Marine in History, w/ 5 Navy Crosses. Saw him one time, about 3 miles in front of our line, nothing but him and his driver, "Jones". Didn't see him at first, but heard this voice say,
"How you doing old man", looked up and there stood this General beside his jeep. Scared the beejeebers out of me and I don't think my feet touched the ground until I was nearly 20 yards away from him. But I did get in the last word, when I said, "Fine Sir".
