I think they all deal their hands in many different ways in politics. They do think they are above the law - only until they get caught. Nixon was a fool having tapes anything is writing or be spoken can be used against you.
National Security has many doors and secrets of their own. How many times have they been doing back door operations. They all believe they can beat the system.
Politicians are the dirty'est of them all. They deal all the time. Look how many governors have been put in prison. I'm sure there are many horror stories they could dig up and use as blackmail to get other information needed.
There are no Saints living today - I bet the smell in Washington gets really bad.
