?Unless one sounds off, injustice often goes unchallenged!? Also, within a democracy, silence is far from golden. As a matter of fact, an injustice unchallenged can, in short order and without warning, land upon you like a collapsing bridge!!
Granted, many in power would much prefer that you bolster the status quo by playing the accepted game, by their personal rules, in silence! A few often demand this, even when that game is dead wrong and as vested as a skunk in a spraying contest! And far too often, those who attempt to attain true justice, or to assist their peers by nipping a wrong in the ass before it becomes epidemic (Whistle Blowers), end up holding the shitty end of the stick!
A man or woman of honor, should not be left dangling, or singled out by the guilty and their butt-licking entourages for retribution en masse! Especially, when a few of the entities slinging the excrement, are corpulently financed and/or corrupt to the bone! Beware the so-called (eternal) team player, and remember that a few teams have been inherently wrong and inundated by the contemptible (ie: Baath Party, Secret Policing Organizations, UN, portions of NATO, etc) [opinion]!!
?An army of cases in point were just brought to light by AP!!? It seems that even though many elements of government outwardly urge those on the inside to sing-out when they discover waste, fraud or abuse, a (not so) few of those who did think enough of their country and their peers to attempt to right a wrong, were in many cases, labeled as persona non grata!
As a matter of fact, many hundreds (if not thousands) of these ?Whistle Blower Cases?, like many other complaints against certain elements of any often untouchable establishment, were ignored, conveniently misfiled, or used as fodder for selective revenge! (Man, does that ever ring a bell!!)
Unfortunately, a lot of people have chosen non-involvement as a way of life, while countless others fear retaliation, or are intimidated into silence, and/or apathy! As such, many a wrong merely grows stronger and gains in loathsome allies, as it, like a ball of dung on a downhill roll, almost always gathers momentum, strength and self-decreed untouchability, while poluting the greener grasses that haplessly lie in its path!
This is not, unfortunately, the way that it was meant to be, but rather, just the way that it sometimes is! The old saying ?LET GEORGE DO IT? (no pun intended), is as pathetic today as it was in 1776, when ?Many A Tory? obediently ate the king?s droppings, rather than sounding off like they had a pair!
Fortunately, however, men like Washington, Jefferson, Hancock, Paine, and even a young school teacher by the name of Nathan Hale, had other views of the (then) situation! As such, they refused to go silently into the darkness - ?And the rest is U.S. History!!?
Again - ?In a democracy, silence is seldom (if ever) golden!!?
