hold a press conference to report the situation of the war in Vietnam.
These press conferences became widely known as the "five o'clock
follies." They were used as a platform for the U.S. to spout the lies
that it wanted the people of the world to believe. "We're winning the
war." "Everything is under control." "It's only a matter of time, now,
until the North caves in." Suddenly on January 31, l968, these lies
were shattered. Massed attacks by National Liberation Front (NLF) and
North Vietnamese Army (NVA) surprised and in most cases overwhelmed
