I'm sure they are nuts
Here in wacko Massachusetts we have a town called Amherst. Berkley California has nothing on this town except size. This is the community that voted to only allow 8 American flags to be flown on a few holidays and only three (per state law) the rest of the year. The American flag, many in that town said, it is a sign of oppression in so very many places? They took that vote, on 9/10/01, it was somewhat reversed at the next week's meeting, guess you know why the vote was changed.
Well, they have done it again. Last year they were so politically correct the high school did not put on the play ?West Side Story? because it showed Hispanics in a negative light. So this year the high school is going to perform ?The Vagina Monologues?. Have any of you seen this play? There is a scene about rape, well ok but maybe a bit complicated for a 13 year old. There is a scene about an older woman having a lesbian affair with a much younger woman. There is also one scene where the speaker says the ?C? word at least 20 times. This play will be put on and viewed by kids 13 to 17, maybe a few 18 year olds. The general public is also invited.
When I saw it there were parts that made me feel uncomfortable. Some of the issues were a bit confused and I?m 55! Many of the kids who will be involved in the production or viewing the play could not get into the theater to see the movie version of this play. Yet tax dollars, local, state and federal are paying for this totally inappropriate program.
I?m not up for the Prude of the Month nor do I like the idea of unnecessary limits on Freedom of Speech. But the drama director, principal, school superintendent and town fathers seem to have gone over the edge. Will 14 year old?s go to local theaters to see X rated movies and tell the manager, ?It?s ok, I'm from Amherst and just doing research for next year?s play?.
Liberals, the wacko liberals, have taken over the asylum. Hope a play like this is not coming to your local high school. If anyone knows of similar plays being put on by high schools, I?d like to hear about it.
Stay healthy,
Andy
