Mortordude,
I know exactly how a death will tear a family apart. When one of my aunts died, she left everything to one of my cousins. At the reading of the will my Dad asked her if he could have a statue of the infant Jesus he got for his mother while in Rome during WWII. Not only did she refuse to give it to him, she threw it away! An uncle asked for a hinged frame that had pictures of his parents. Again she refused so, when no one was looking, he pocketed it. When she found out, she actually filed charges against him! There were several other such incidents but, needless to say, she cut the family cord with a vengance. Last year she contacted my sister and another cousin for some silly reason and they got together at a restaurant, my sister hoping to mend some fences. However, the years hadn't mellowed her out one bit. Some people are scorpions, some are frogs.
