Funeral Today for Marine Killed in Iraq

A Yakima family will lay their Marine son to rest in a funeral service this afternoon.

Sgt. Jason Cook, 25, was killed in action in Iraq on Aug. 21.

With the help of Sen. Patty Murray's office, Cook's family was able to expedite arranging a visa for Cook's mother-in-law to travel from her home in Bogota, Colombia, to attend the service.

Anyone who attends the 2 p.m. funeral at the First Presbyterian Church, 9 S. Eighth Ave., is asked to be seated by 1:45 p.m.

Coook was an anti-tank missileman based at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He grew up in the Seattle area and graduated from Okanogan High School in 1997. He was married to Yovana Cook, 25.

His mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Del Miles, live in Yakima.
