Neil, it is a nice place to retire if there is local family connects and if a person is willing to accept the culture and all the neighborhood dynamics; which there tons off- boy howdy. It isn?t all that tough to blend in, ya just have to be patient, have a good sense of humor and just kind of figure things out as ya go. Here are some pics of the town of Tayabas which is well south-east of Manila. Nice folks and a lot of fun to hang out with.
The red roof building in the foreground was where the Japanese garrison was during WWII. A USN aircraft took the roof off the place at the time, took out the garrison and without damaging the church that I took the pic from. See pic of the St. Michael Archangel Basilica a bit further on. These days the former Japanese garrison building is a museum but served as a grammar school for a long time.
