KARACHI, Pakistan - Three of the four suspected suicide bombers in the July 7 attacks on London travelled to Karachi in 2004, but the purpose of their visit was unclear, the Pakistani immigration agency said on Monday.

Pakistan?s Federal Investigation Agency said two of them -- Shahzad Tanweer, Mohammad Sidique Khan -- arrived in Karachi on Nov. 19 and returned to London in February.

He said the third suspect, Hasib Hussain, arrived in Karachi in July 2004, and immigration officials were still unclear on details of his departure.

The three were born in Britain to parents of Pakistani origin.

The attacks killed 55 people, including the four suspected suicide bombers, and injured some 700 others.

The fourth suspected attacker was Jamaican-born Lindsey Germaine who came to Britain as an infant and lived in Luton, a city north of London.

Meantime, Pakistani authorities questioned a businessman whose mobile telephone number was listed on the phone records of one of the alleged bombers, an intelligence official said Sunday.

The businessman, who was questioned near the eastern city of Sialkot on Sunday, told intelligence officials that he had many business contacts in England, but he did not provide a full accounting of the telephone link with the alleged bomber, the official said.

The intelligence official did not say which suspect may have been in touch with the businessman, who was placed under observation but was not taken into custody.
