It seems like, since the Taliban's emergence in Afghanistan, the country has indeed reverted to medieval times. Instead of the relatively stable society it was back in the '50s & '60s, its degenerated to a country of warlords who use the country's poor as a de-facto religious army determined to spread Islam by force. The thing is, we, the coalition, could defeat the Taliban, but like the evil snake that it is, it will just go into hiding under a rock until things quiet down then, using the "heaven" tactic, recuit more downtrodden followers. BTW: why is it that you don't hear about any of the high ranking religious clerics or mullahs doing homicide bombings? Its because they're not that stupid, but they recruit people who are.
