A fellow Rev War reenactor also does Civil War. He took part in a battle where a non-unit-affiliated reenactor showed up and asked to participate. He seemed to look the part and was allowed in. During a battle sequence he ran up to a rebel soldier and, at point blank range, shot him in the face with his pistol. There was no ball but the rebel lost an eye. Since that incident we in the Rev War hobby will not allow anyone to take part in a battle unless we know everything about him; unit, years of experience, etc.

Just recently, on the Isle of White, a English Civil War reenactor was shot. Fortunately he will recover.

Reenactment is dangerous enough without some asshat getting carried away.
