Al-Shabaab claims attack on a military base in Somalia's Jubbada Hoose

IN A STATEMENT released on 23 July, a Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen military spokesperson - identified as Abdiasis Abu Musab - claimed that 27 soldiers had been killed when militants detonated a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) attack and stormed a military base in Baar Sanguni in Somalia's Jubbada Hoose region, Reuters reported. The statement added that the group captured the base following the attack. A military official cited in reports stated that reinforcements had been sent to the area following reports of an attack, although the claims in the statement could not be independently verified.
