its true the Japanese were starving. but the Army cut off most of their food for the military. the Gov was trying to negotiate, thru the Russians a peace settlement. but the Army was in charge. after it was over the US brought in massive relief for the civilians. if we don't drop the bombs and end it how many US troops perish in the invasion??? ests were 1 million. which were always wrong. add to if we don't drop the bombs, invade then after the war grieving families find out Truman could have ended it I dare say Truman would have been impeached. his thoughts exactly.
remember the radio msg broadcast by the emperor announcing the surrender??? the night before Army hot heads busted into the palace and tried to seize it. but it was stored in a secret place. they were gonna fight to the last woman and child. and the agony would have been prolonged. at that time American lives were more important.
