Default International Criminal Court

The following was taken from today's Sunday paper. It is noted as from "compiled wire reports."

WASHINGTON, D.C.

****
U.S. may take away aid over war court

The State Department is warning foreign governments they could lose U.S. military aid if they fail to promise to protect American peacekeepers from the reach of a new international war crimes court. Two countries, Roumania and Israel have pledged not to turn over U.S. Peace Keepers to the court which the Bush Administration opposes. By contrast the Netherlands declined, saying it would undermine the authority of the International Criminal Court. Overseas, U.S. Embassies are under instructions to negotiate agreements with foreign governments to shield U.S. Peace Keepers by promising not to extradite them to the court for trial. In Washington, ambassadors for several countries were called to the department over the past two weeks to remind them that President Bush is authorized by law to suspend American assistance -- or to continue the aid.

What do you all think? Will the threat work, or is it a hollow threat? I voted for bush and personally I hope he sticks to his guns. This whole thing is blackmail on the part of the have-nots against the U.S. the way I see it.....
