Lie, Cheat & Even Steal

Is acquiring a public office so damned alluring that any person (or political party) would lie, cheat and even steal to gain it? And does anyone (from any political faction) truly believe that the people (Our People) are so damned dumb or uninformed, as to not see through any such attempt to steal away our hard won rights?
Who does this country really belong to anyway, or does not: “This country, with its institutions, still belong to the people who inhabit it?” (Abe Lincoln, April of 1861) And once again for the record: What is it about “WE THE PEOPLE” that is so damned hard for a few of these elected bureaucrats to understand?
“For we are The People of the United States of America”, and let no man or woman - long term, or even a recent arrival alike - and regardless of their title, wealth or position, ever forget these poignant words! For if you ever do my friends - then you too will have voluntarily taken that very first step backwards into the travails, evils, and maybe even the misdirection of - “Those Same Archaic Philosophies That Our Ancestors Fled The Old World To Escape!”
