Default The missions continue.............

Mission No 4
February 13, 1944
Near Abbeville, France

The target was some rocket gun factories. We flew at an altitude of 12,300 ft and it was 13 degrees below zero. We saw the bombs hit the factories and lots of smoke covered the place. The flak was heavy and close to our plane. We could hear the burst of the shells, and at one time we had a big puff of smoke come into the waist window. A formation in back of us had a lot of flak. One of the planes was hit and a navigator was killed. Another plane ditched in the English Channel. We had no friendly escorts.

Mission No 5
February 20, 1944
Tutow, Germany

The target was a big airdrome. We flew at an altitude of 12,500 ft and it was 20 degrees below zero. We saw no flak and no enemy fighters. There were no clouds over the target. I saw the bombs hit and blew the airdrome up. No planes were lost out of our group. We flew up and over the North Sea and over Denmark into Germany. We had no friendly escorts.

Mission No 6
February 21, 1944
Diepholz, Germany

The target was another airdrome. We flew at an altitude of 23,000 ft and it was 35 degrees below zero. We saw no flak and no fighters. I saw the bombs hit the target and we had a good hit. We didn?t lose any planes except one plane from our group crashed when it got back to England. No one was hurt. We flew across the North Sea and over Belgium. We had P-47?s for our fighter escorts.
