However, it truly is sad how little (if any?) acknowledgement was given such caring & helpful

I believe that such EMS types knowingly Volunteering selves into a possible ONE WAY:
"Mission Impossible" are actually The True Heroes. The miners were accidentally forced being there.

Didn't hear much about Those Brave Volunteers afterwards, either.
