I recall back in elementary school, a kid having to get a series of 7 shots in the stomach for rabies. OUCH! Right, nasty stuff.

The cycle of turkeys and coyote/fox/raccoon go together. If the population of turkeys is down, the animals are doing well. But on the flip side of that, if the population is up, you can count on a rabid year for the animals.

The NYSDEC (Dept. of Conservation) had introduced wildcats and the timber wolf to the area. The funny thing is though... they wont admit it. When a hunter goes out in the woods and finds a deer carcass in a tree, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. They discounted it as "unexplained".
