This needs to also be a sticky so all can read this wonderfully articulate article about us. It's what I've tried to say 100 times.
I have always said that I respect and love my fathers generation for fighting WWII.
I have also said that it's more heroic to have fought a war that was NOT supported by those at home, then one where 99% stood behind you all the way. WWII, you were expected to fight...Vietnam, you were expected to find a way out and respected more for dodging and protesting then going. How friggin' bizarre.
