Republicans -- Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, Ranking Member

Encourages White House and House Democrats to Demand Senate Action on H.R. 4887

Washington, D.C.—Following the revelation that the final health care legislation being rushed through Congress by President Obama and Congressional Democrats might force military personnel to either buy new health insurance or pay a penalty, Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) today joined the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee in supporting legislation which states explicitly that Department of Defense health care coverage meets the threshold for minimal essential coverage.

McKeon—during his speech on the House floor—applauded Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Missouri) for addressing the concerns of many in the Republican Conference, but he criticized Congressional Democrats for not fixing the underlying health care legislation. During his remarks, he pointed out that Democrat leaders in the Senate have not given any assurances that they will consider and pass H.R. 4887.
