Down to New Orleans they did go
The rest to bayou Bienvenue with "Old Hickory." did go
Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane came with the Waterloo veterans too
The British armada scattered the american fleet aside oh dear
Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane won the battle of Lake Borgne true
Well Jackson said of our impending harsh fight
"Gentlemen, the British are below, we must fight them tonight,"
The Tennessee militia struck the redcoats landing at midnights dark bell
The fighting was hard the British unnerved by our savage charge
Then Old Hickory retreated to the Chalmette Plantation to hold dear
On the banks of the Rodriguez Canal Old Hickorys men firm shall stand
Anchored on right by the mighty Mississippi River so wide and fast
An impassable cypress swamp on our left did protect us

With Old Hickory stood on the banks of the Rodriguez Canal too
Jean Lafitte's outlaws dandy New Orleans militia too
Stood With Old Hickory on the banks of the Mississippi true
Louisiana, an American ship for sure volleyed and thundered too
To silence the British cannonade for sure
The redcoats lost the first days gun volleys for sure
The second day they paid with blood most dear and with Pakenham too
Hardened veterans of the Peninsular Campaign in Spain
Fell by the score to the long-rifles great lore
Harvey and the rest of the patriots fell
Defending the line through savage shot and shell
Jackson's victory had saved New Orleans
But not without cost to Flynns Licks orphan
Names of all men all but forgotten
Harvey Spurlock no grave doth hold
Johnson Riley no father to hold
