Default Throw the pin...

When I was in AIT (USMC, Camp Geiger, 1969: adv infantry training) I noticed that a couple of the railroad-tie reinforced foxholes at the grenade range were blasted apart. According to the combat trainer, some newbies get discombobulated if they DON'T start by holding the grenade in their throwing hand. When the pin is pulled, they fumble trying to change hands - wind up throwing the pin and dropping the grenade.

He said it was a form of "natural selection" for Marine grunts if they couldn't dive into another foxhole fast enough. Don't know if it was true but it sure drove home the point.
