U.S. Navy sailors rescued two mariners and their two dogs from a sailboat that had been adrift at sea for months.
Jennifer Appel and Natasha Fuiava, both from Honolulu, had set sail from Hawaii to Tahiti in spring of 2017 and experienced engine problems during bad weather, the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service reported.
After the rescue, Appel told the sailors that despite the mechanical failure, the two decided to press ahead in their journey, believing they could make it to their destination by sail.
But months into their journey and long past when they originally estimated they would reach Tahiti, they began issuing distress calls daily.
The USS Ashland made it to the scene first on Oct. 25, 2017, and brought the two mariners and their dogs aboard.
Watch the video, which shows footage from the rescue and interviews with the two women.
