The point system changes when a driver gets to the "Chase for the Cup" where each driver is seperated by -5 points from the driver in the higher position. Hence todays leader Matt Kenseth has 5050 points and the second place driver, Jimmie Johnson has 5045 points. Going into Richmond yesterday afternoon the drivers were using the NASCAR system where Kenseth had earned 3,638 points and Johnson had 3,629 points.
It's a whole new ball game during the "Chase" and I'm rooting for the old fart of the bunch, Mark Martin whose 30 points behind in the Chase for the Cup in seventh place.
