In 1945, a pilot vanished over the Chesapeake Bay; the Navy hopes it has found his plane

About three years ago the Naval History and Heritage Command asked institute volunteers to conduct a search for lost aircraft in the bay near Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The Navy had begun a systematic search for such planes. One of them was Lt. j.g. David L. Mandt's Bearcat. It disappeared in 1945.
