My father passed away in 1997. Afterwards as we were going through his things, i ran across his diaries from world war 2. I was stunned by some of the things he experienced and never really talked about. He was a Naval officer on destroyers in the war. I took the liberty of posting two of his entries in the ww2 section of this site about the USS Earle attacking U-boats.
As gentle and kind as a man that he was, I could not imagine him in that hell. There will never be another generation like WW2 vets and their wives/sweethearts. It is a different kind of world now.
