The Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Two firefighters are killed and four others are badly hurt after they were forced to jump from a fourth-floor window of a burning building in the Bronx on Sunday.
Later, a third firefighter was killed at a Brooklyn blaze.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg tells a news conference at St. Barnabas Hospital that Curtis Meyran, 46, of Battalion 26, and Firefighter John Bellew, 37, of Ladder 27, died after battling the Bronx blaze on East 178th Street in the Morris Heights section.
Three firefighters are in critical condition at St. Barnabas, and a fourth is in serious condition at Jacobi Medical Center.
The Mayor says Brooklyn firefighter, Richard Sclafani, died at a hospital after being injured at a two-alarm fire in the basement of a building in the East New York section.
