![]() The news media in general is just about worthless, They tell you just enough of a story to fit what ever there view point is. If the present news media was around the few days before D-Day our guys would have been in big trouble. I can see it now, CBS, NBC,ABC all state on nightly news, Tomarrow the US will invade Normandy France at sunrise, Although France has not declaired war on the US, we invade there contry in an atempt to overthrough the government. The german government has sent representatives to the coast to mediate.

![]() Ron,
I'm not sure what happened to the media reporting process but I think ever since VN and the instant news via satellite made it possible to make immediate news possible. There are many reporters who have little honor short of making a big splash in the headlines. Dan Rather jumps out at me right now as being one of those looking to center stage. WWII was newsreels and wire transfers of which the government could intercept and control. Plus it took two weeks in most cases to get the stories back to the states. Now forget it. Yes I'm sure the invasion would have been snafued by the media back then if we had the same people reporting today.

![]() The problem with the media when reporting war is that people get to see how ruthless and brutal war really is right up front.

![]() I'm not a big fan of the media. They don't really get the whole issue out nor the reasons for the actions being taken. The text is sensationalized to improve the viewers interest.
During VN the media beat us to death and this in turn delayed the actions needed to produce the end results required. If you go to war it has to be all out - or don't go. Keep the media out of the high conflict areas until the situation has been brought under total control. We must learn that a limited war ends up being one of attrition - and this alone takes more lives then it would be to just annihilate the entire area - being up front and very impersonal. Too many are lost from this so called limited action. Overwhelm your enemy using all your toys and make the point very clear. To do otherwise is a dishonor to our kids who fight these conflicts. The stateside political elements who call the shots must realize that - if they commit to such events these will result in bad media - and possible loss of political face. But they must be willing to risk everything including their livelihood because to do otherwise makes the losses of our kids unacceptable. I'd rather have a leader who bites his own bullet and rides the waves to a total victory or disaster if thats what it is. But whoever gives that signal had better be willing to loose everything since those that on the line are doing just that for many causes they do not always know about.
