![]() Proved why airlines have two pilots in the cockpit of a commercial airplane. Seems the pilot took off from a airport is Texas and as he took off he became unconscious, The co-pilot took over and landed the airplane, Pilot was taken to hospital wear he was pronounced dead of a heart attack.
It's a good thing that there were two pilots on a commercial flight, BUUUUT. I heard that commercial flights have portable defibrillator's on them, If so why didn't anyone use it? this guy should be still alive with just a heart attack as long as there was no trauma, why didn't they do CPR? The passengers never knew, well maybe one of them could have saved his life if they were told? Flying on United is good but don't have a heart attack, they will let you die. Ron |

![]() I went and looked at AEDs and airlines, And it seems that .
The FAA( June 2000) proposed requiring an AED on all commercial aircraft. Considering that the majority of US carriers (and a large number of foreign airlines) already have taken the initiative to put AED programs in place, the FAA mandate largely follows a trend well under way. We have literally gone from success rates of 2%-5% (and nearly 0% in flight) with traditional resuscitation efforts (CPR) to an astounding 50%-70% success rate in rapidly defibrillated patients who suffer sudden cardiac arrest. The relatives of this pilot should be looking into why there was no attempt to save his life. And if there was an attempt, what happened. With a AED system there also has to be training. A lot of police officers carry them in there patrol cars and are trained it there use. The AEDs are so simple that all you do is hook it to the patient and get away. It will shock a shock able heart beat, it will assess and not shock or shock again. And with a heart beat breathing will also start up on it's own. |
