I Will Never Go Back Either:
There are just too many really bad memories concerning the Vietnamese--Including the loss of my Best Buddy. If I ever went back I would probably end up being the "GUEST" of the Vietnamese in the Hanoi Hilton. I just know I would see, or hear, something that would cause me to lose my temper and then say, or do, something that would piss off the Vietnamese. I have no desire to be the "GUEST" of the Vietnamese Government or see that stinking place again. To me they will always remain ENEMIES!!
To all of my Vietnam Veteran Brothers and Sisters I again wish you all a MOST SINCERE and HEART FELT: WELCOME HOME VIETNAM 1968 |

DMZ-LT,
My old man told me a similar story; he (a USAAF truckdriver) was in France during WWII when he picked up a French babe and spent the night with her. The next day, in gratitude I suppose, he offered her a ride in his truck to town where she had a job. Of course having civilians in a US military vehicle was strictly verboten so he told her to give him a heads up as they appoached the job building so he could let her off with minimum eyes watching. So where did she work?...the MP shack, naturally! In panic, he grabbed her by the hair, pushed her on the floor and drove past the shack until he was out of sight, with her screaming curses in French all the way. When they stopped she kept yelling at him in French, probably questioning his parentage. Then she saw that the stockings he had given her the night before were torn...so she punched him in the nose. Froggy gratitude.
