BOSTON - Capt. James "Brett" Millican assumed the duties and responsibilities as commanding officer of Coast Guard Base Boston from Capt. Timothy Heitsch during a change of command ceremony at Historical Faneuil Hall, Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

Rear Adm. James M. Heinz, the Coast Guard Director of Operational Logistics, presided over the change of command ceremony, a time-honored military tradition which formally represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority, and accountability from one leader to the next and reflects the dedication of men and women serving their nation.

Capt. Millican most recently served as Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Sector Field Office Galveston, Texas, where he was responsible for providing mission support for to the 1,800 Coast Guard personnel and eight operational units in the Sector Field Office Galveston area of responsibility.

Following the ceremony, Rear Adm. Heinz awarded Heitsch the Meritorious Service Medal. Heitsch will relocate to his next assignment at the Director of Operational Logistics in Norfolk, Va., where he will serve as chief at the Office of Base Operations.

Base Boston assists all Coast Guard support units and personnel stationed throughout the 1st Coast Guard District.
