Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, told an audience that filled the lower floor of Hoyt Sherman Place Auditorium on Thursday that he plans to vote for President Bush in the upcoming election. Koch, a native of New York City born to Russian-Jewish immigrants in the 1920s, is a lifelong Democrat and is registered as a member of the Liberal party.

No doubt at all Koch is a survivor and one of the more interesting characters in the American political tapestry. To my knowledge, he is the only Democrat to win an election against the corrupt Democrats of Tammany Hall and live to tell the tale. Usually ?Mac the knife? did the important "voting" and the fish of the East River became the new constituency.
But he?d best not press his luck and accept an invitation from Teddy to take a scenic drive and check out some of the historic MA bridges.
