Jersey, United Kingdom, the largest of the Channel Islands has much to offer including a mix of fishing villages, sandy beaches and coastlines to discover.
Begin your exploration at the St. Matthew’s Church with a glasswork font, altar rail, and cross by Rene Lalique in Paris. The church’s glass is unique since Lalique’s mould was broken after the glass was completed.
For a glimpse of the island’s military history explore the Greve De Lecq Barracks where visitors can also learn about Jersey’s north coast and see exhibits that include a collection of horse-drawn vehicles and farm implements. Also worth a visit is the Jersey War Tunnels in St. Lawrence. The tunnels tell the story of the occupation of Jersey during World War II. This popular tourist attraction allows visitors to walk the same tunnels German soldiers once used.
Also located in St. Lawrence is the Hamptonne Country Life Museum where tourists can explore 300 years of Jersey history via a number of restored farm buildings.
Animal aficionados should visit the Gerald Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Trinty. The trust showcases endangered species from around the world.
The islands diverse landscape and favorable location make for good year-round fishing. Charter a boat to fish the inshore waters for bass, rays, brill and tope or cast a line from the cliffs and harbors for mullet and conger.
Visit Jersey’s newest attraction aMaizin Craft for souvenirs. Inside the 2,000 square foot barn visitors can create their own hand made gifts. Children will enjoy the program of changing activities that includes puppet making, mask designing and painting, or creating frames to hold your favorite vacation photograph.
Rather take home jewelry? Visit the Jersey Goldsmiths in Lion Park to design and create your own or watch as a commissioned piece is made. Free of charge visitors can try to pan for their own gold and gems or visit the collection of jewelry belonging to international screen and stage stars.
