Default More 'supporting The Troops' From The Repubs???

Do Republicans really support the troops?

The heartbreaking stories that appeared this week in The Washington Post and the Army Times would make one question their devotion to the morale and welfare of those who paid such a high price for President Bush's war.

Both publications told stories of badly wounded men and women who had their lives saved on the battlefield, only to be trapped in what the Post called "a messy bureaucratic battlefield nearly as chaotic as the real battlefields they faced overseas."

Walter Reed Army Medical Center has become "a holding ground for physically and psychologically damaged outpatients," the Post reported. Some have been languishing in crumbling, squalid buildings infested with mice and cockroaches for months, and in some cases, years, for the military to process their paperwork and determine disability ratings and future treatment for their injuries.

The Army Times reported that the military has gotten as good as civilian insurers (and the VA!) in the area of what's become known as "denial management," or making sure clients don't get the benefits their entitled too.

A 30 percent or higher disability rating entitles a wounded soldier to a lifetime pension and medical benefits. Less than that, and you receive a lump sum payment and no medical help.

Even though there have been thousands of badly maimed soldiers from nearly six years of war, the Army is handing out fewer permanent disability benefits than ever. The Army Times reported that in 2001, 10 percent of the soldiers going through the medical retirement process received permanent disability benefits. By 2005, only 3 percent got benefits. And, as of last year, the Veterans Administration also has a 400,000-case backlog on new medical claims. President Bush promised in the 2000 election and again in the 2004 campaign that his administration would REDUCE this "backlog" and REDUCE the waiting time for veterans to receive a decision on their medical claims. Just the OPPOSITE has taken place-----------There are MORE claims 'pending' than when he took office in 2001 AND 2005! And, the waiting times for a decision on these cases have INCREASED rather than decreased!

So much for supporting our troops.

Any Republican running for re-election in 2008 should be continually reminded of the gap between their words and actions regarding the Iraq war and the intolerable treatment of the men and women who have been maimed while fighting it.

If the 2006 election wasn't enough of a wake-up call for the Republican Party, the GOP has positioned itself to electoral oblivion in 2008!......... If the Republicans still want to stand shoulder to shoulder behind a failed president and his failed war polices, they will pay a steep price at the polls in 2008.

Bottom line!..... This is one more way, besides not providing enough troops in the beginning to prevent the mad house we now see in Iraq, not providing adequate body armor, not building enough 'up-armored' hummers right, not taking care of the military families, cutting their pay, and sending recovering, wounded soldiers to languish in cockroach infested hospitals/former motels while the Army does all it can to prevent them from getting their benefits, that the Bush administration and its lackeys' at the Defense Department are failing, or worse, betraying, this generation of our beloved troops. When there is talk of supporting the troops, add these things to the list of ways the radical right wing has failed to do its job.

There WILL be a further "house-cleaning" in 2008, I can't wait to see these so-called "compassionate CONservatives" thrown out on their fat-cat asses!

Default Gimpy,...

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!..........."Bush's war"?????????

The next thing you'll try PROTESTER or DNC LINE telling people is that all
those whom: "Paid such a high price" didn't do so for God, Country,
"9/11" and Liberations of both Afghanistan & Iraq.

Besides, and since: "Recapture The White House ABOVE ALL ELSE"
Dems now control The U.S. Congress and/or "The American Purse String",
why not just fix things as needed instead of perpetually belly-aching?
Such just not as politically advantageous??????????

Neil

P.S. Gimpy,
Thanks again for helping me/us out.

Default Gimpy,...

Cute.

But, how come not answering why Dems now in charge,...
don't: "Just fix things needed instead of perpetually belly-aching"?

I'm sure others would like to hear the answer, ALSO.

Default Don't worry

Recon, my yankee buddy.

It's coming----------and YOU and those like you aren't going to like one bit when all is said and done.

Finally, after more than 6 years of absolutely NO OVERSIGHT and NO CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS on the planning, funding and execution of the Iraq war and it's aftermath (not Afganistan), much less anything else, you'll see and find out just how inept, incompetent, misguided and phucked up the folks in charge of this crap REALLY are!

Where the hell was Congressional "oversight" these past 6 years, huh?

Why wasn't the Senate and House Armed Service and Veterans Affairs commitees investigating these issues that have been around ever since YOUR political party took control, huh?

I'll tell you why, because the Whitehouse and the politcos in charge of this administraion ordered them NOT TOO!

With the Democrats now in charge of these commitees, the American public will finally get to see how ill prepared and inadequately suppiled and cared for by this administration our beloved troops have been.

It is a crying damn shame folks like YOU are so blinded by your ridiculous partisanship that you are either unwilling or unable to see the damn TRUTH!

But, like I said-----soon, very soon.......The American public WILL SEE!

For The Guys & Gals (re. Troops) and all our sakes,...
SURE-AS-HELL-HOPE-YOU'RE-RIGHT!!!

Still,...I just cannot believe that The Clinton and/or Fonda Crowd
will do a Total 180 in character and honesty, and/or pretty-much
change their favoring all ACLU & DNC or Leftist Missions & Objectives
every time over any U.S. Military Missions & Ojectives (survival also),...
plus America's VERY SURVIVAL to-boot.

Also, don't see any changes ever happening since much like insatiably
vicious and predatory leopards, similar type pack politicians
never changing their spots (naturally Election Times excluded).

Neil----------------It's ALREADY changed!

Have you forgotten that the Democrats have already appropiated an INCREASE of of $3.6 billion MORE than the previous Congress (Republican) and more than $4 billion additional funds that did GEE-W for veterans health care?

Default Gimpy,...

Guess that: "GEE-W" and; "The previous Congress (Republican)"
INCREASE of 20 BILLION$ (largest single increase in VA History)
doesn't matter either,...to YOU & DEMS.
Why is that?

You're WRONG.................It DOES matter! And the increases were more than appreciated.

The PROBLEN with YOU and those like you who fail to comprehend the F-A-C-T-S of the situation is that you will NOT admit that MORE than HALF of that $$$$ money, single most in VA history was in fact MANDATORY FUNDING distributed NOT by Bush, but by LAW.........for VA compensation (set by LAW) and mandatory cost of living pay increases for VA employees!

It was NOT a "gift" from Bush OR the Republicans, but in fact set by the LAW OF THE LAND!

These "moneys" are mandated by the Federal Law.

The actual amount of $$$$ moneys that were appropiated BY BUSH and the Republican Congress ARE and WERE far below the actual COSTS and funds required to operate the VA health care system.

This is NOT ONLY ME saying this, but each and every single military veterans service organization in this country!---Ie; DAV, VFW, AMVETS, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion, etc, etc!

You folks just will NEVER admit to these facts, but just continue to use the "spin" and "propanganda" coming from all the right-wing publications and republicans that DO NOT TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH!

You are bilnded by your own partisanship, or just to damn uninformed to grasp the F-A-C-T-S!

Default Gimpy...

Apparently since President George W. Bush promoted that: "LAW"
and The Republican Congress then in control of: "The American
Purse String" then drew up and passed that: "LAW",.................
SUCH ALSO must be denied, perverted & set aside by YOU & DEM Leaders.

Again,...why is that?
Do Dems believe most Americans even without short term memories?
