missing My Dad the hero
On this day sixty years ago my Dad was fighting the "Japs" as they called them on the uss Enterprise at the battle of midway.I spent most of his life knowing that he and the men who fought beside him on the big"E" were heroes. It was not until he died last year that i really began to appreciate him and the sacrafices he made for me and my freedom. I miss him alot.God Bless the men and Women of ww2 and that generation and God Bless America.

I totally Identify
I too miss my dad alot. He died in 1989 and I never realized the hell he went through until after his death when I started researching WW2 and Korea. I then realized that my father was someone that I didn't know at all and would give anything for the chance to have him back long enough to talk about his Military career. It's sites like these that really help keep them close in our hearts and memories. God Bless our Service men and God Bless America!

My father passed away in 1997. Afterwards as we were going through his things, i ran across his diaries from world war 2. I was stunned by some of the things he experienced and never really talked about. He was a Naval officer on destroyers in the war. I took the liberty of posting two of his entries in the ww2 section of this site about the USS Earle attacking U-boats.
As gentle and kind as a man that he was, I could not imagine him in that hell. There will never be another generation like WW2 vets and their wives/sweethearts. It is a different kind of world now. Bill

The WW II Generation
The Greatest Generation of all times if you believe in freedom!
My wife's father died last week. He served in the Navy during the war. He was in the Pacific on a couple of ships. It is sad to see that generation fading away. They will be missed! Keith |

missing the veterans
Its sad to note that most of the WWII Vets will never see the Monument being constructed on The Mall.
