Default Media Has Blood on its Hands, Iraq GI Tells Rep. King

Media Has Blood on its Hands, Iraq GI Tells Rep. King

Rep. Peter King, R-NY, delivered a stark message on Tuesday from an unnamed U.S. military officer now stationed in Baghdad who believes negative press coverage of the U.S. war effort has cost American soldiers their lives.

While flying back to the U.S. aboard a military transport, King told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity via satellite phone, "I promised an American colonel yesterday, an Army colonel, that [I'd relay his message]: 'There's blood on the hands of the American media.'"

"He's lost men because of the terrible reporting and it's just creating a terrible atmosphere," King said the Army colonel told him.

"The troops have tremendous morale. But unfortunately the terrorists are encouraged and the Iraqi people are being dissuaded from cooperating with the American forces because of the terrible coverage back here," King said.

The unnamed GI, who King said had two graduate degrees, shared his disturbing assessment as the two flew by helicopter from the Baghdad airport to the Al Rashid hotel.

Paraphrasing the Army colonel's words, the New York Republican said, "I just want you to know that there's blood on the hands of the American media; that my men and women are going to die because of them."

The GI's message continued, "We are winning this war and the only way we can lose this is if the American people lose their nerve and that's because of what's going on in the American media."

King said he concurred with the Army colonel's complaint, saying, "What I saw is totally different from what the American media is reporting."

Noting that he was in Baghdad during the wave of terrorist attacks this weekend, King said that, "in spite of all of that, life is virtually normal in Baghdad."

"What the media doesn't show is that the rest of Baghdad is traffic jams, markets open . . . you would have thought you were in midtown Manhattan," the New York Republican contended.

"Life is so different when you're there from the way it's being portrayed in the media."

You got my vote too ma'am. This kinda stuff is needed to offset the bad news they like to publish. Thanks for your efforts in bringing this information into the light!

Default Media

I read somewhere, that while in Viet Nam, The Media, protestors, actors, and Teachers, coast somewhere close to 10,000 American Lives. Due to giving the NVA and VC hope and ergging them to hang on, That the end was near,. After tet 68 we had there backs to the wall. But because of the above people, the VC and NVA hung on, and that hanging on coast American lives.

If everything is just fine in the world, the media don't have a job, so they get out there and create some work.

Yep.Far as I know America is the only country on earth in which you can be assured of reading enemy popaganda in "frendly"newspapers.Wouldn't be so bad except it's the ONLY message the media sends.

I've always been a big Heinlein fan myself. Before going to Vietnam I memorized some of his sayings that seemed appropriate and every day or I'd repeat them back to myself and see if I was following them.Am convinced that on at least one occasion this saved my life and almost certainly several other lives.

These days when I really get angry,I have a paraphrase taken from Heinlein that I mentally tell myself:"Killing this asshole would be but a momentary pleasure and would likely get me talked about."Then I just grin at them while thinking about what I'd LIKE to do to them.Works for me.Oddly enough this seems to effect some folks more than a slap upside the head would, and saves all those tiresome court appearences.

Doc - what patience! I've been there and years ago I had a very short fuse. I've taken more ass kicken then most - just a slow learner. I stand up for what I feel is right and I wear the scars and have the missing teeth becaue of it. It don't make me right in fact I should have followed your little guideline and I would've been better off. Some of us are just a little behind the times and not as well read as you Doc! Thanks

Boats-

It ain't about patience. It's about fear.At one time fighting meant trying to give the other fella a good "whoopin'".In Vietnam fighting meant killing.I'm afraid that in the heat of the moment I'd forget which kind of fighting I was doing, especially if I was loseing.Try to avoid fights unless the matter's worth killing over.
