Hundreds of riders are expected to participate in a Ride for the Troops -- a motorcycle poker run to benefit the DeSoto County Military Family Emergency Relief Fund.

The fund-raiser is sponsored by the Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors and is set for April 9.

Letitia O'Lane, one of the organizers, said the event will begin about 10 a.m. at the Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors on U.S. 51 in Nesbit.

"The first stop is at the Holiday Crossing restaurant on Hacks Cross Road in Olive Branch. From there, the riders will go to the Windy City Cafe in Como, and from there to the VFW on U.S. 51 in Hernando," O'Lane said.

The ride ends at the Boiling Point restaurant on Church Road in Southaven, with the last bike expected in by 3 p.m., she said.

Music at the Boiling Point will be provided by Flip Side, a rock and roll band, beginning at 2 p.m.

A live auction is scheduled to begin about 3:30 p.m., also at the Boiling Point.

"Registration will be $15 each day of the ride, but riders may pre-register at $10 each online at www.nwmar.net," O'Lane said.

The ride is open to any kind of motorcycle, but she said cars and trucks may join as soon as the motorcycles leave.

The rain date for the event is April 30.

The DeSoto County Military Family Emergency Relief Fund provides for more than 400 DeSoto County families from which service members have been deployed overseas.

For more information, contact O'Lane at (901) 461-5760.
